Our Story
While serving as a volunteer at a camp for kids with life limiting/chronic illness, Samuel
Schoonover met kids who were dealing with issues of grief and bereavement as a part of daily life.
Touched by their sadness Samuel decided to do more for these kids than a once a summer camp experience.
He began a weekly non-profit recreational program for kids packed with fun and Magic!
Magic Pack ran for many years and raised the spirits of many children and their families.
It was the constant contact with kids and their families which led Samuel to see a need greater than
a weekly recreational program.
Samuel's 'day work' is massage therapy. He has owned his own business and run his own massage school
for many many years.
Like the day Newton sat under the apple tree, it was an 'aha!' moment
for Samuel (and the world!) when it 'hit' him that the real 'magic' was in combining healing and nurturing
touch into a program which could be easily used on a daily basis by the kids and families he so wanted to serve.
Samuel was a daily witness to the imporance of touch. He had seen the positive changes
in his clients and students lives for years.
Samuel knew that even simple caring touch would change families lives in invaluable
ways.
This 'AHA!' moment grew into the idea for Foundation for Tender Loving Care Touch. Samuel
envisioned a program that trains volunteer trainers to teach family members to give simple loving touch to their ill
child or loved one.
Samuel was certain that there would be a model he could easily follow. So, Samuel began researching
the U.S. for such a program. To his surprise, he found nothing.
As he continuued his diligent search Samuel found only two such programs in the entire
world.
FTLC Touch does more than even the two models Samuel found outside of the U.S.
FTLC Touch is the first and only program of its kind anywhere.
Why is this?
Because, FTLC Touch addresses all of the needs of the family.
